RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

I took off today in search of camping spots along the Colorado River. I found a few south of Interstate 10 on the Arizona side. Here's one that I especially liked. I needed 4-wheel drive to get through the deep sand! Looking west from the dirt road that ran along the river..... Lots of nice photo's recently! Pete, I enjoyed all of your photo's. They look like places I have visited. Gotta love Rosie and the new Dad! :) ...and all the rest, too!

Wow, what a great looking motorhome!! I bet Rubi the vintage expert knows what that is???? How I would love to have an old one like that - just no mechanical skills at all! Great photo! The last couple of pics make this one look sort of dumb...LOL...but I thought it was interesting. I saw it today at the local lake. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a298/whimstock/IMG_0643Small.jpg The Ultra Van The Ultra Van is a unique motorhome. Powered by a Corvair engine and transaxle, it was designed by David Peterson (a professional aircraft designer) in the early sixties. These units were produced in limited quantities by the Ultra Van Corporation of Hutchinson, Kansas until June of 1970. You spotted a rare and unique motorhome Mrs Whim.:W:B You're exactly right, not that I'm surprised. I went back today and took a close-up of the writing under the driver's window...The Ultra Van. :) I'd love to see the inside! And, Pete, the flag impressed me, as well. It's been windy here and it really shows up nicely.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Richard, I have a question. How did the young couple come to bring Sarah to you when the found her? Was it because of your work at the shelter, just something random, etc.? I agree with whoever said these special dogs seem to find their way right to you and Sue. Lucky for them...for you...and for us, too. What a moving couple of pages here.

RE: Our future in this country

....It's a really sad state for this country to be in. I rarely watch "free" TV now. For example, the woman's clothing with plunging necklines and really short skirts in supposedly work situations sends the wrong message to the younger population. There was a time not too many years ago when the older folks felt showing an ankle was sinful. :)

RE: Helping out DD's BF? Good or bad idea? LONG

Money is always tight and if you're fortunate enough to be able to help someone out that's a blessing for both of you. Yes, write off the loans - that way when he repays you it will be a pleasant surprise rather than getting bitter waiting for it if he can't or won't.... I agree with you. He doesn't sound like a "loser" at all and the age difference doesn't seem that great to me. After all, they are both adults and age is only a number. Good for you for considering helping. Even if they don't last as a couple, you will feel good about yourself for trying. Also, write it off as a gift. If you get repaid, great. Never "loan" money to friends or family.

I find your photo especially interesting, Kate! What a wonderful thing you and these women do. :) I enjoyed getting to see the group in action.

RE: Our future in this country

It all starts with putting your two income family earnings to the side and start acting as a parent. If you have kids its your job to teach and raise, not the daycares, schools, and etc.Just as a counter example, my wife & I both work (both professionals) and we used daycare for many years (until they were old enough to be home alone after school). We are still together, and our kids seem to be fine. As I wrote, just an alternative example. In my younger days, as a stay-at-home Mom, I would have agreed with mking. Now, that I'm older, I know that your counter example works equally well. I also know that there are no guarantees, regardless of the path parents take. We do the best we can; when we know better, we do better. And then, we wait to see if it worked. Might work for all the kids, maybe just one, maybe none at all. I'm sure there are stats of "proof" for both sides. ;)

RE: Books on CD"s - any good ones ?

Listening to "The Devil in the White City," and it's excellent! It's history told in such a fascinating way, it reads like good fiction. Audio book The last two Grisham books I listened to, read by Michael Beck, were very good..."The Summons," and "Street Lawyer." He's the best and reads these books set in the South especially well.

RE: Whacha readin' now?

...I thought "You've Been Warned" was not his best, by far. "The Devil's Teardrop" was my first Deaver novel and I love it. I'm on my third of the Lincoln Rhyme series. Rebecca Be sure to read "The Sleeping Doll"! :)

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

Hi all, I don't post pictures often, and don't comment as much as I'd like to....but I enjoy coming here each and every day. I enjoy ALL the pictures. This is a great place to visit :B. It was very pretty when I got home from work today, so I ventured out to take some pictures around my yard, right on the shores of Lake Erie. You should post more often. I really enjoyed all your pictures...what a great place you have to enjoy!! :)

RE: "Advise" versus "Advice" Just Another Rant

....If I were to post something like, "My advise to you is to hurry home because your house is on fire!", there are those who would point out the correct use of "advise/advice" while their house burned down. Others perhaps not so gifted in syntax and spelling would hurry home, put out the fire and perhaps say, simply, "Thanks!" GM Nice! :)

RE: Whacha readin' now?

For the Patterson fans, did anyone else read "You've Been Warned"? I thought it was way below the usual Patterson fare...actually kind of dumb, but maybe that was because the story was so un-Patterson like. Just started "The Devil's Teardrop" by Jeffrey Deaver, and expect it to be good. And listening to "The Devil in the White City," a historical tale of the Chicago World's Fair with a serial killer parallel. It is so fascinating, I thought it was well-written fiction at first. The author is Erik Larson. I might not have stuck with it in print, but the audio is terrific. Happy reading!

RE: Our future in this country

When I grew up in the '50's and early '60's I can't remember John Wayne or Clint Eastwood, or Paul Newman uttering the F word.I am rather sure they uttered that word more than once off screen. It is a different world, but that is not necessarily bad. I haven't read this whole thread, but I like your post. Yes, "different" but not necessarily bad. :) On second thought, maybe not really that different, just words that were always around but might seem more obvious now for various reasons.
